Thanks to your generous donations, we raised the $20,000 down payment on the Rescue Ranch and closed on the property September 10, 2013! We have been very busy since then planning for the cabins, play yards, agility field, and walking trails. Thank you to everyone who is donating towards the Rescue Ranch!
Phoenix Animal Rescue's Rescue Ranch in Levy County will be the first place rescued dogs come when they start their journey to their forever home. At the Rescue Ranch, each dog will be welcomed by a staff of volunteers who help each dog come out of their shell, heal from emotional trauma, and learn to feel safe. If a dog has physical wounds, our team of dedicated veterinarians at West End Animal Hospital will diagnose and treat all medical issues. Then our caring volunteers will continue their work at the Rescue Ranch to help dogs heal from physical wounds like broken limbs, heartworm disease, and skin infections. Once a dog feels safe with people and other pets, our volunteers match each dog with a foster family who will continue caring for their foster dog until he gets adopted to a forever home.
We are in need of donations of building supplies like 2x4s, 2x6s, drywall, insulation, light fixtures, ceiling fans, small window air conditioning units, outlets, and sheet metal for roofing. If you are able to donate supplies or your building expertise, please email us at PhoenixRescueRanch@gmail.com We hope to begin building the cabins at the ranch in November 2013.
This is what we are planning for outdoor seating and dog/volunteer hang out area at the Rescue Ranch
The Rescue Ranch will be a place of healing, a safe haven from anything that may have happened prior to rescue. Our volunteers will be able to walk dogs, sit quietly with dogs learning to be brave, and play with dogs who are just now learning what toys are. Our active dogs will be taught agility, flyball, and frisbee by our volunteers. Our older dogs will have a quiet place to rest so they can enjoy their retirement years.
This is our plan for one of the play areas for dogs where they can play with volunteers.
Join us to build this Rescue Ranch so we can save more dogs in need. We have a strong volunteer base and ever-increasing community support. Since January 2013, Phoenix Animal Rescue has worked with rescue groups and the staff at the Levy County Shelter to decrease euthanasia at the Levy County Shelter by 67%. This time last year, 22% of dogs who entered the Levy County Shelter didn't make it out. This year, we've helped that number decrease to 12%. That means 88% of all dogs who walk in to the Levy County Shelter leave with a rescue group or an adopter! We want to do more to help dogs in Levy County and are applying for grants to provide free spay/neuters and free shot clinics for dogs in Levy County so that we can help decrease the number of pets entering the shelter system.
This is what we plan for one of the cabins at the Rescue Ranch where dogs and volunteers can hang out.
With a home base in Levy County, our volunteers will be better able to reach out to the community to help dogs. We can decrease the number of pets entering the shelter, save dogs from being euthanized at the shelter, and provide a safe haven for older dogs who need a quiet place to spend their sunset years.
All dogs will have a comfy spot on the porches of the cabins at the Rescue Ranch.
